Changing Your Eating Habits this New Year

It’s a new year which means an opportunity for a new you. With New Year resolutions in full swing, we want to help you stay faithful to your new healthy lifestyle. If you’ve chosen to change your eating habits and try to get more nutritional value in your diet, here are some tips that will help you in your journey.

The most important factor in changing your eating habits is to make changes that you can live with forever. Habits can last a lifetime, so make sure that your eating habits will keep you healthy and happy.

The first step is to look at your eating habits and determine where and how you can make small changes. Do you eat healthy all day and binge at night?  Do you snack even when you’re not hungry? Look through your pantry and look for your biggest temptations. And then take action. Throw away the addicting chips. Set a cut off time that you won’t eat past. Make small changes that might be uncomfortable, but aren’t unbearable.

Never stay hungry. I know that seems ironic, but eating regularly and healthy foods can keep you from binging. Find little snacks that are nutritional and filling so you’re not starving yourself.

Don’t grocery shop hungry. If you step foot into a grocery shop with an empty belly, expect to fail. Have a nice, filling meal before you grocery shop. And don’t deviate from your list. The beauty of marketing is the ability to get consumers to buy product they don’t need until they see. Stay focused on your list and avoid aisles that hold temptation on them.

Savor each bite. It’s so easy to get into the habit of shoveling food into your mouth so you can move on to the next thing in life. Eating has lost its place among the endless list of to-do’s. Make eating a planned event. And eat slowly. Chew each bit and enjoy yourself. If you are going to eat healthy, enjoy the experience. Another tip is to drink plenty of water with your meal. This will help you feel full on less food!

And finally, don’t skip the most important meal of the day. Eat breakfast. Your body has had a long night’s sleep, which leaves your body missing the necessary fuel to get your metabolism going. Eating breakfast is crucial in giving your energy. So eat up!

Eating can be a great experience. But many times, the fun of eating is destroyed because we choose unhealthy foods. When you eat healthy, you get to enjoy eating. Take your time, eat small portions, eat regularly, and allow food to be a part of your life without consuming your life.
