Breast Lift Procedures
Mastopexy, also called a breast lift, takes place when Dr. Frenzel transforms a woman’s figure by lifting and reshaping her breasts. The result is a shapelier figure. Sagging breasts, also called ptosis, occurs due to aging and gravity–both natural occurrences over time. Other factors, such as breastfeeding, weight loss, pregnancy, and a decrease in skin elasticity can also cause breast ptosis. Dual-certified Dr. Frenzel can take you through a complete transformation, beginning with weight loss surgery and including a breast lift. A popular cosmetic surgery procedure, breast lift surgery is undergone about 90,000 times a year in the United States. Different from a breast augmentation, a mastopexy lifts and reshapes the breasts.
For more information about a breast lift, a consultation with Dr. Frenzel will help you understand the details of the surgery. Before meeting with Dr. Frenzel, think of key questions and notes you have about getting a breast lift. During your initial consultation, you can ask all of your questions, as well as provide Dr. Frenzel with your goal for your breast lift surgery. Include a description of how you would like to improve your figure. Keep in mind that every person’s body is different. Dr. Frenzel can work to give you the body you desire, but he will be limited by your unique physical structure. Keep an open line of communication, providing your ideal outcome and then be receptive to the possibilities offered to your particular body. At your consultation in one of our offices in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, you can discuss details, such as how much a breast lift costs, the method Dr. Frenzel uses, and any other questions or concerns you have.
Once you have decided upon a breast lift, Dr. Frenzel will use either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. During breast lift surgery, no breast tissue will be removed. Your breasts remain the same size, with a larger appearance due to tightened skin. Lasting about one to three hours, after you have gone through surgery, you can return home the same day.
When breasts are sagging or drooping, due to age, gravity, or childbirth, a breast lift is performed to bring the breasts back to a more youthful position. Sometimes breast implants are used in conjunction with a lift to restore breast volume as well. Other times, a breast lift without implants is appropriate when breasts are of adequate size and shape but simply need lifting.
There are several types of breast lifts, ranging from the mini to the full mastopexy, depending upon the degree of breast sag. The mini (Binelli) mastopexy involves making an incision around the areola, removing some of the excess skin, and tightening the envelope, which brings the nipple position upward. In the full mastopexy, an incision is made around the areola and extended downward from the nipple to the breast crease.
Breast Lift Surgery Results
Although there may be some residual scarring on the breasts, over time scars fade and flatten out. A surgical dressing is placed on the incision sites, and the patient is required to wear a supportive bra for six to eight weeks. Discomfort can be controlled with oral pain medication.
